In case you haven't checked, there is a new beta build (2.58c) for licensed users in the Release Candidate Testing Forum [link] It's quite stable & adds a number of new features (including copy & paste & node/material drag & drop). Give it a spin!

I'm sorry for my ignorance; as a non-user is it possible for me to get some explanation on how Octane works? For instance, is it a plug-in renderer that I can use with 3ds max? How would I use it in motion pictures (is that even possible)?

I would really love to get into this but can't figure out what this is... It seems like all you do is export models into the program to render stills - I'm really interested in getting this level of quality into my videos...

Hello,
Octane Render is a standalone external render engine using your GPU(s), its blazing fast and unbiased.

Its not a plugin for a 3D package like 3ds max.
Like you said, you export your scene with UV and textures directly to Octane Render.

Currently you can't do animation (videos) but its gonna be supported at some point.

Register on the forum and ask your questions there.
